The large heads are the difference

The four tadpoles are larvae in their third week after hatching from an Ezo salamander inhabiting Hokkaido. Though they have the same genome as the Ezo salamander, they have much larger heads than their smaller and slim brethren. The genome is important, but it is not the sole determining factor.
